SESSION A: The Asset-Powered Needs Assessment
Facilitator: Lesli Laughter, Chief Academic Officer, 806 Technologies, Inc.

For so long, schools have focused their needs assessment on the deficits – the areas that need to be “fixed.” Most needs assessments barely mention all the great things that schools are accomplishing. In a time when schools have been pushed to exhaustion with culture changes, mental health challenges, safety concerns, and teachers resigning in record numbers, how do school leaders forge on? This session will explain the power and importance of an asset-included needs assessment. It’s time to reshape the ethos from within our schools and promote student and teacher growth through the school’s strengths. Come learn how changes in the needs assessment process can help increase the resilient spirit necessary for staff to live the school’s mission and accomplish the goals. Instead of operating with a school plan built solely from a deficit focused needs assessment (only root causes and problems) re-engineer it to be an asset/needs assessment process to include and build upon what is going well. Equip your school plan to eliminate those root causes and problems assisted by the power of assets and strengths.
